About Me

I am running to retain my seat on the Davis Board of Education, Precinct 5. I love being a resident of Davis County. I love our school district and the wonderful education and opportunities it provides for our youth and future leaders. I believe our school board sits in a distinctly effective position to represent the needs of students, parents, and our community, and I look forward to your consideration for this position. I am thankful for the chances I have had to be involved in my community. The area of the most personal growth and learning for me was serving on Kaysville City Council. After being elected, I was committed to learning all I could about being a representative. I gained an understanding of how to listen to the needs of those I represent, built valuable relationships with staff to understand the functions of running a city, and prioritized balancing the needs of residents and the city with responsible investment and growth. One initiative I am proud of is advocating to have our city’s RAMP Tax put on the 2022 ballot, and leading a citizen’s campaign for it to eventually be passed by a wide margin, allowing Kaysville to join the many cities in Davis County in utilizing this revenue stream for the betterment of our community. Through this process, I learned about the importance of understanding the desires of my community and how we can work together on a shared vision.

I believe in the power of individual contributors to make our communities better. I have chosen to invest time being involved in education. I have enjoyed serving on the Community Council at my children’s elementary in Layton, Utah, and was elected chair after serving my first two-year term. This school year I chose to apply for election to the Shoreline Community Council as well and have enjoyed representing at this level. I have seen the value of supporting teachers partnering with the school district to provide needed software, and technology, and carefully crafting a vision for the students and staff to work towards.

I have learned much about how legislative decisions impact our schools and have a desire to be involved. After learning about Utah House Bill 374 regarding sensitive materials in schools I applied to sit on our school’s library review committee. I believe this experience, and being involved in legislative processes has prepared me to be ready to serve on the school board and represent students and parents.

I believe in the power of listening to those you represent. In my career, I have worked in information technology and design. Part of my work is understanding the needs of users through research and interviews. I have become skilled in gathering user feedback to make decisions and realize the value of this skill as a representative. I believe when each person has a voice we are better collectively.

I bring a willingness to learn what I do not know and an enthusiasm for making our school district a better place for all to learn and grow. I would consider serving on the Davis School Board a great honor and an opportunity to help shape a better future for our community.
