I’m running for election to retain my seat on Davis School Board.

When I received the email that there was a vacancy in my precinct on the Davis School Board I hoped that someone committed with balanced views and reasonable solutions to support students and teachers would apply. After considering my own interest and qualifications, and encouragement from parents in the district I chose to apply. I am thankful the school board chose me to fill this position. I have learned so much already about the needs of students and families in my precinct, and now I look forward to running for the remaining years of this seat so I can continue to be effective in my service. I look forward to hearing from families in this area about their needs and concerns and making myself available at the local school level.

DAVIS SCHOOL BOARD PRESS RELEASE

November 29, 2023

The Board of Education of the Davis School District Tuesday evening appointed Michelle Barber of Kaysville to fill the open seat on the school board and represent Precinct 5, which covers areas in Clearfield, Hill Air Force Base, Kaysville, Layton and Sunset.

Barber, a former member of the Kaysville City Council, currently chairs the Kaysville City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. She also serves on the school community councils at her children’s elementary and junior high schools in Layton, has served on the PTA Board in various capacities and volunteers for her children’s VEX Robotics teams, Davis High Swim Team and Junior Achievement, among other things. She also sits on the school library committee to review books at her child’s school.

Responding to a question posed by a student board member, Barber stated, “One of the things I think is really important is equipping teachers to provide individual experiences, making sure they have the tools and resources necessary to provide a well-balanced education.”

In a cover letter submitted to the school board, she also stated, “I will forever be an advocate for teachers and appreciate their efforts to educate and support our children. My mom started teaching high school in the Davis School District the year I started high school and is still teaching today.”

Barber will take the oath of office during the Dec. 5 board meeting.
